Blended, Blending
Like in "blended" whisky. In Scotland strong malt whisky is blended together with grain whisky. Blending is one of the most important working processes in producing whisky.

Blended Scotch Whisky
Collective description for all Scottish whisky-blends. The first producing a whisky-blend was Andrew Usher, who was working at Smith's in Edinbourg producing the Smith's Glenlivet Malt Whiskies. In 1853, he blended a few of these whiskies and named the developed product Vatted Malt, a description, which is still common today. Later on, malt whiskies and grain whiskies were blended with each other, and a new whisky-type - the Blended Scotch Whisky- was born.

Blended Wine
Dessert-, sweet-, south or liqueur wine.
Blended wines are wines, which are characterised by the special character of the wine-grape and two more factors. On one hand, it is the special treatment, the preservation and on the other hand it is the additions, like carbon dioxide, alcohol and cider while the production. Starting product of blended wine is always a basic wine.
Prescriptions by law
They are meant for every blended wine. Exceptions are vermouth and synthetic sparkling wine.
In Austria
Blended wines (dessert - or south wines) have an alcohol content of at least 13 Vol.- % and 22.5 Vol.- % the most.
In Germany
There is not such a description like "Blended Wines" in Germany. Products described as dessert wine or south wine or sweet wine have to be produced outside of the country and may only be blended with other dessert wines or treated in another way (except Vermouth) in the country. The EWG introduced the description liqueur wine in Germany to replace the former description "dessert wine". Exceptions are squist out wines (alcohol added wines), which are still described as dessert wines. Liqueur wines are products with an entire alcohol content of at least 17.5 Vol.-% as well as a excisting alcohol content of at least 15 Vol.-% and 22 Vol.-§ the most. The main important difference between the former German wine-codex and the EWG-regulations is, that now liqueur wine can also be produced interior.
In Switzerland
Here, only the description "sweet-wines" exists. It is a wine, which differs from usual wine, because of its more or less sweet taste or because of a higher alcohol content. Its alcohol content is 18 to 20 Vol.- %.
Types
Blended wines are devided into groups depending on the ingredients used in the production process. Each product has its own production procedure, therefore the production cannot be treated as being flat-rate. It is always run specially in each step of the production.
